
Kharkiv regional charitable foundation “Social Assistance Service”
Kharkiv Regional Charitable Foundation “Social Assistance Service” has been working in Ukraine in the field of social services since 1996, the purpose of which is to provide charitable assistance and support to low-income and socially vulnerable segments of the population of Kharkiv city and Kharkiv region. For its work, the foundation has selected three areas of charitable activity: children, the elderly and IDPs from the ATO area.
Today, all projects implemented by the fund are aimed at improving the quality of life of socially vulnerable groups. First of all, the organization tries to cover all categories and risk groups of children and adolescents who are affected by the street and who are not given enough attention and care by adults.
Such projects are:
The project “Otradne Children’s Town” – transfer of cottages for free use of family-type orphanages in order to create conditions as close as possible to family ones, for orphans and children deprived of parental care, coordination of their activities. Children forming a correct family model, where they observe the relationship of parents, learn to prevent and resolve conflict situations, as well as children adapt to the conditions of stay in foster families.
The project “Social services for families with children” – helping to reduce the level of social orphanhood by empowering parents and parenting skills in families in difficult living conditions. All activities of the project are aimed at the main thing – changing the psychological climate in families, as well as positive trends to change the financial situation, a healthy lifestyle, attentive attitude to children; achievement by parents of a stable level of self-sufficiency and ability to live, independence in solving their family problems.
The project “Center for Children and Families” – creating conditions for harmonious creative and comprehensive development of the child’s personality, promotion of family values, strengthening the family, prevention of social orphanhood, adaptation of families of IDPs and ATO participants to new conditions, acquisition of new social ties and opportunities for integration into society.
The DARE project “Education and Social Innovation in Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Romania for the Better Life of Our Children” – helping children and youth to achieve educational and personal goals in life. Children and young people in the DARE program improve their educational goals, become owners of personal processes and active citizens who take responsibility for their lives. In order to achieve this, as well as to develop the ability of adults to understand children, classes are held with children on the methodology of self-organized educational space, a children’s parliament is created and operates, trainings on parental capacity building and trainings for teachers are held.
Partners in the implementation of these projects are state and non-state authorities: Children’s Services, Departments and Educational Institutions, Centers of Social Services of Kharkiv City Council and Administration of Kyiv District of Kharkiv, Kharkiv National Pedagogical University named after Skovoroda, Kharkiv National University named after V. Karazin, international and Ukrainian public organizations: Caritas Austria, Ukrainian Charity Exchange, NGO “Childhood Special World”, “Emmaus”, “Grade”, Dobryak Charitable Foundation, Auchan supermarket chain, Rotary Clubs of Kharkiv, football Shakhtar club, foster families and family-type orphanages.
