UMD has applied for the Responsibility Award 2024

In 2022, the Ukrainian Child Rights Network launched the project Children UA: A return mission” (Children UA: A return mission) and this initiative is still ongoing. “The Way Home”, “The Way Home: A New Route”, “The Way to the Future” – all these projects are about our work for the return of all children who have been deported or forcibly displaced.

We thank all our partners and donors who help us in this work. In particular: The Partnership for a Strong Ukraine Foundation, Bring Kids Back, Save the Children International in Ukraine, SOS-Kinderdörfer weltweit Hermann-Gmeiner-Fonds Deutschland e.V., the Coordination Center for the Development of Family Education and Child Care, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories.

Thanks to our joint efforts, we did it:

  • 129 children and young people were returned, accompanied by our case managers, and the children were provided with material support and their educational needs were met;
  • to improve the health of 95 returned children and their parents or guardians;
  • develop an Algorithm for the search and reunification of deported or forcibly displaced children with their families or legal representatives;
  • to prepare a draft Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “On Approval of the Procedure for Cooperation between Local and Central Executive Authorities, Local Governments, the National Information Bureau, and Non-Governmental Organizations on the Return of Deported/Forcibly Displaced Children, Orphans, and Children Deprived of Parental Care during and as a Result of the Armed Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.”

Our main achievements: over the entire period of the project implementation, the UMDP team worked on complex cases of children’s return that were not taken up by other organizations. These are orphans or children deprived of parental care, who have disabilities or special educational needs.

And not a single one of our returned children has been placed in the boarding school system.

In 2024, the Ukrainian Child Rights Network applied for the Responsibility Award 2024, nomination “Interaction without Borders: Ukraine to the World”. We hope that our efforts will be appreciated by the jury.
